Pair of French Watercolour Paintings
H: W: D:
A pair of antique French watercolor paintings depicting traditional village life.
Condition: Good
Date: Early 20th century
Origin: France
History:
Dating to the early 20th century, the paintings are beautfully framed in period oak, ready to be displayed. Both paintings are signed R. Puja.
One painting features a gentleman in traditional French country dress, walking past cottages possibly towards a fishing boat where he will spend the day working. The second painting depicts a church spire emerging from a flash of green and pink foliage.
The technique of painting with watercolours was widely used in France and Europe during this period, particularly for landscape and outdoor scenes. French artists such as Paul Cézanne and Claude Monet experimented with the medium to create impressionistic effects, using transparent washes of colour to capture the light and atmosphere of their subjects.
